Dope Lemon on Tour
Soul-pop performer Angus Stone -- aka Dope Lemon -- originally hails from Australia and has performed both solo and in a number of successful musical groups. Born in 1986, Stone grew up in Sydney and started playing keyboard and guitar in elementary school. Coming from a musical family, Stone would frequently perform with other family members, including his parents (both folk musicians) and his older sisters, Julia and Catherine.
In high school, Stone started writing pop songs and joined local bands. In 2006, he and his sister, Julia Stone, formed a duo, Angus & Julia Stone. They released their debut EP Chocolate And Cigarettes, in August of that year, then followed it up with two more EPs, two compilation albums, and four studio albums.
In 2009, Stone released his debut solo album, Smoking Gun, under the pseudonym Lady Of The Sunshine, which reached the Top 50 on the ARIA Albums Chart. In 2011, Stone and his sister parted ways to pursue individual solo projects, and in 2012, he released his sophomore effort, Broken Brights, which featured "Bird on the Buffalo," "Monsters," "Wooden Chair," and the title track as singles.
In 2016, Stone began recording under the name Dope Lemon. He released the album Honey Bones that same year, recording with Rohin Brown (of The Walking Who) and Elliott Hammond. The album's singles included "Marinade" and "Uptown Folks." The following year, Stone released another set of studio recordings as Dope Lemon: the four-track EP Hounds Tooth.
By 2019, Stone released another Dope Lemon album called Smooth Big Cat. It peaked at No. 2 in Australia, with Beat magazine calling it "Dope Lemon's most developed and ethereal sound yet." In early 2022, Stone shared his fifth studio album, titled Rose Pink Cadillac. It featured the singles "Every Day Is a Holiday," "Kids Fallin' in Love," "Rose Pink Cadillac," and "Stingray Pete."
Opening up to GQ Australia in January 2022, Stone talked about how he views his personal musical evolution, saying: "I think your respect for the craft becomes more refined. It's a labor of love, to say the least. It's an ever-turning, growing wheel of learning how to tell a story. It's something I wake up every morning when I'm in the studio mode and I'm super excited. I make a coffee and wander in and it's just... I don't know, for me, I feel like I'm in this place that I'm supposed to be."

Great show. I love their music. The production was on point. Incredible to see them at such an intimate venue!
I hadn’t been in the Varsity since it’s make over. Must be the coolest restrooms in the metro…Dope Lemon engaged with the crowd comfortably, I’m a newer fan but audience members knew several of their songs really well. Opened with super heavy and strong version of the song Stone Cutters, came off perfectly to set the tone for the night. Carried good vibe through show and the sound was well balanced, great! I listened to more Dope Lemon the following day, a sign for me of a day great band! Eager to return to the Varsity now that I know how good it sounds for Arc de Soleil in September. Thank you!
Awesome show! I love to see my favorite artists in small intimate venues!
Loved the Smooth Big Cat album but they played one song off of it and a lot of their new stuff off their new album, which was to be expected I suppose. Just not a fan of the new album and the vibe and the crowd was weird. Just disappointed. And the Fillmore is not a good venue so it was the perfect storm for a let down. Don't think I'll attempt to see Dope Lemon again. Not the worst show I've ever seen but it was pretty bad.
The show was good him performing live was amazing to see. Though I wish there wasn't as many difficulties with his constant guitar swapping that was messing with the sound. Which is why I could see reasoning for ending the set a little extra early. Leaving the crowd literally begging for another song or two. As for him you couldn't ask much more from the guy he literally gave us a little from every album though. Drinks!!!! Always overpriced 6 dollars for a $2 can water come on you guys already got me for the $120 tickets. Why keep drilling me.
Powerful, deep, playful, soulful and perfect dancing vibes😍
Pretty expensive for being that short show plus a really bad sound. In Spotify is one thing but live is another
Great venue, amazing band, but with a solid catalogue of music it would be nice to hear more that one hour of live music from the band!! Is this Shrinkflation??!!
Absolutely amazing venue, amazing band, and all around great time. I absolutely can't wait till these guys come back to the States!
I wasn't sure what to expect seeing Dope Lemon for the first time live but it was great! They played all my favorite tunes and lots of new stuff. Of course they made time to come out in full head gear before the end of the show which was awesome. Can't wait to see you guys again.
