About

The Tony® Award-winning Best Musical that took the world by storm is back. THE WIZ returns "home" to stages across America in an all-new Broadway tour, the first one in 40 years. Baltimore Sun raves "Powerhouse performances. Stunning choreography. Visionary sets" and Chicago Tribune proclaims THE WIZ is "An eye-popping and high-intensity revival! This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway--from its iconic score packed with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk to its stirring tale of Dorothy's journey to find her place in a contemporary world. With direction by Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney's Aida), choreography by JaQuel Knight (Beyoncé's "Single Ladies, "Black Is King) and additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers), this dynamite infusion of ballet, jazz, and modern pop brings a whole new groove to easing on down the road. Everybody rejoice!

This play was the definition of perfection!!! From the colorful costumes to the bring the house down singing it's worth every dollar charged to partake in this amazing play. It's a must see at least twice to take in all the pageantry of the play.

  • Amazing!

I loved seeing "The Wiz"at the Hobby Center. It was amazing and nostalgic and brought me back to my childhood. The cast was so talented, and the show was engaging and entertaining. I drove 1 1/2 hours, and it was worth it. I would see it again.

This was one of the best productions I have seen! The vocals, props, and costumes were all on point. It was high-energy and put together well😊

  • Absolutely Magnificent!

by JMM on 5/4/25Hobby Center - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw “The Wiz” on Broadway in New York last May and I will say, It was equally amazing off Broadway as it was on Broadway! The cast was both captivating and remarkable in their performance! Would go see this performance 10 more times if I could.

  • So nice, we had to see it twice ‼️

by Opening night in pink on 5/3/25Hobby Center - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Vibrant costumes and stage props grasp your immediate attention. The actors embody the characters so well, you forget you’re watching a stage play. Your imagination is catapulted into the world of Oz via Kansas with ease. Our favorite characters were auntie bella (I know I messed that up but you know who I mean - the good witch who buried Evemene lol), tin man, the lion and scarecrow! The arrangements were out of this world and their voices perfectly complimented. The harmony of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and TheLion were so nice, we had to come back and see it twice! I’m tempted to go see them in a city near me soon! Bravo to the entire cast - a special shout out to the ensemble and understudies, band and team- 🗣️NOTHING SHORT OF AHHH-MAZING🤍‼️

  • The Wiz (tour 2025)

by Js on 3/22/25Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

The Wiz is an iconic production and should be seen by everyone. The touring cast is top quality and brings the talent and joy that defines The Wiz. Sheherazade gave a great performance of Debra Cox’s reimagining of Glinda. The ensemble was energetic and memorable, most members filled multiple roles. Jerome, Elijah, and Mykal brought strong voices for Tinman, Scarecrow, and Lion. Kyla shined in the dual roles of Aunt Em and The Wicked Witch of the West. Alan Mingo returned to the tour as the titular Wiz and is enigmatic as always. Dana as Dorothy has a bright future ahead: she brought the complex emotional range for Dorothy which makes you want to follow her journey and root for her. Her version of Home brings down the house. I felt she paid homage to Stephanie Mills’s version from The Wiz’s early years, spectacularly hitting the high notes in “real to me.” If you can see this show, don’t hesitate: see it. “We must look inside our hearts to find a world full of love like yours like mine like Home.”
