Three Dog Night on Tour
Legendary band, Three Dog Night, now in its fifth decade, claims some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night.
Three Dog Night hits weave through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures -- songs like "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)", "Joy to the World", "Black and White", "Shambala" and "One" serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize Three Dog Night's continuing popularity.
This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on its legacy alone. Always working to expand its audience, Three Dog Night has embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New and existing fans buy Three Dog Night's music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million copies.
Three Dog Night also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience its dynamic performances of the hits as well as several new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band's 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to Three Dog Night's signature sound.
Three Dog Night maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 70 dates a year. The hit filled concerts are performed for generation-spanning audiences by Danny Hutton (founder/lead vocalist) and Michael Allsup (guitar) with Paul Kingery (bass/vocals), Pat Bautz (drums),) David Morgan (vocals) and Howard Lavarea (keyboards). The band's now-famous name refers to native Australian hunters in the outback who huddled with their dogs for warmth on cold nights; the coldest being a "Three Dog Night".
Boasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music Three Dog Night had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles, 11 Top 10's, 18 straight Top 20's, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. The hits appeared on best-selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country). Its records Three Dog Night Page 2 continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of Three Dog Night records have been sold through the years.
Created in 1968 by Danny Hutton Three Dog Night recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new songwriters of their time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group's eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in Three Dog Night dominating the charts for years.
Now, marking 50 years on the road Three Dog Night continues to grow its fan base by keeping up a full schedule of concerts at theaters, performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the band has performed over 2,500 shows including two Super Bowls.

Three Dog Night were great played all the favorites.
Just saw Three Dog Night at Humphrey’s in San Diego-these guys were great! Awesome show and clearly they are having fun and loving what they do. Grooved to all their classic hits and an intro to their new album, prayer for the children, during which their harmony was impressive! Joy to the World! :-)
Very fun show! They still sound great, blending their voices as they power through their parade of Top 40 iconic songs.
Great Venue and great show! Will definitely be back to the Dome in Virginia Beach.
First time in new Dome to see one of my old favs. Sound was a bit muffled but the acapella number was spot on!!! Nicely appointed theater; however elevated seating would have been preferred—lot of disruption with people passing back and forth to/from bar area on the aisle separating our F seating section!!
Three Dog Night performed at The Dome at Virginia Beach's oceanfront and brought in a full house. In their 70s and 80s, and they sounded fantastic. The acoustics if the new venue were superb and the band sounded like they did 20 years ago when I last heard them play at UVA.
I very much enjoyed the music, but Three Dog Night only played for 1 hour and did not even come out for encore song or 2. That was very disappointing. The Little River Band opened the show and they also played for 1 hour. I would have liked to have seen them play less and Three Dog Night play longer since that is who I bought the tickets for.
I was a big fan of Three Dog Night in the 60's and 70's so I was excited to have the opportunity to see them again. While the voices weren't perfect the overall performance was fantastic. I would highly recommend seeing them if you have the opportunity. It was especially fun to know that Three Dog Night performed the last show at the original Dome and now they were back to be the first show of the new and much improved Virginia Beach Dome! The new facility was fantastic. There's a unique design that allows the venue to convert to an inside/outside setup. Seating on the main floor was in comfortable folding chairs with plenty of leg room. There are multiple cash bars in the venue, which made it very convenient to grab a quick soda, beer or snack without missing any of the show. There are also 3 above floor seating sections as well. I really think The Dome is the most user friendly venue I've ever been to. Congratulations to Virginia Beach on making the investment is such a great venue.
The front men were old but remember Three Dog Night started in 1968. From the first note of of the first song the vocals were amazing. Their music has stood the test of time and it was amazing to hear some of the stories and relive the songs of my youth. If you are older like me and want to be taken back in time do not miss seeing THREE DOG NIGHT. These guys were amazing from Eli's coming to Joy to the World timeless classics. Spoiler - they have a new album coming out!!
Heard them on the radio. They were a little before my teenage times. They had so many number 1 huts that their show can't be bad. And it wasn't. They definitely deliver on the harmonies. The dome venue is new. First show at the venue. The acoustics were great. Ran out of some adult beverages but it was their first show. I wish the old ladies that were turned around in their seats and talking about their grandkids would have left. Didn't pay to hear about their grandkids. The police presence was so overwhelming that it felt unsafe. Never been to a show that I needed that much police to protect me glad three dog night is touring. Great ahiw
